  • Wednesday June 26th, 2013 will go down in history as the official launch of the 2O2O VISION Green Building Challenge.  As evening fell in Shanghai, design professionals, pioneering manufacturers and international media filled Kokuyo's ultra-contemporary, award-winning Flagship Showroom to welcome the largest transition to green building the world has ever seen.

The evening marked a night to celebrate the months of research and collaboration between GIGA and the industry's top professionals who, together, have developed strategies and frameworks to guide projects to meet Central Government's aggressive mandate for green building. Between decadent bites of Kush food and drinks, the 2O2O VISION team launched the Material Data Drive which will implement these frameworks to build a critical mass of data about materials' embodied energy, embodied water, chemical composition, and BIM readiness. Through the Material Data Drive, we're targeting to document 90,000 materials to eliminate the single largest barrier to building green. The drive is already off to a great start and is building momentum. So far, 11 pilot projects have been registered for the 2O2O VISION Green Building Challenge and 14 design companies (A00 Architecture, Atelier Liu Yuyang, Atelier L+, B+H, Broadway Malyan, Callison, CannonDesign, LAI, Lixiaodong Atelier, MMoser, nbbj, RTKL,Scenic Architecture Office, and SRIBS) have signed on. Pioneering Manufacturers are also rising to the challenge; 11 companies have already signed on to provide critically missing data:

    Gold Members: Kokuyo
    Silver Members: CTTCC, Geberit, Knauf
Bronze Members: Forbo, Koshii, Milliken, Rockfon, Tang Dun

With the Pilot Year officially underway, we invite individuals and companies to get involved in the 2O2O VISION Green Building Challenge. Designers can get involved simply by submitting pilot projects and contacting Manufacturers to support the Material Data Drive. GIGA's Material Research Team is available to help designers collect and normalize data (free). Get in touch with us to schedule a meeting.

Manufacturers can get involved by becoming 2O2O VISION Members and (most importantly) providing missing material information. Certification Equivalency Guides are available to help Manufacturers strategically select Certifications and Material Tests which are recognized by green building certifications around the world. Manufactures interested in 2O2O VISION Membership can contact us for more information.

To support the Green Building Challenge, GIGA will curate and host regular events to share knowledge, test ideas and continue building momentum for green construction. Our first event will be held on Wednesday July 24th, mark your calendars accordingly and sign up to join.
