On May 20, GIGA successfully held the Shanghai Material Challenge 2017 Session at E Peng Hui (EPH) - a Green Innovation Industrial Park, formerly a piano factory with a history of 100+ years.

16 teams from some of the top design, material and construction firms in Shanghai joined us at the EPH for a day of fun, innovative and friendly design challenges. After over four hours of intense competition, designers from HPP won the first prize and walked away with Orkan MA-1 Purifier. Designers from Robartsspaces finished in the second place and took home each a Philips Hue Go China while the EVA Architects came third, winning a Philips Hue Strip each. Other participating companies included SRIBS, Ennead, B+H Architects, Zhenshiliang Interior, etc.

GIGA Material Challenge launched in 2013 and has been held across China. The 2017 GIGA Material Challenge offers participants opportunities to experiment with cutting-edge and innovative materials thru the lens of healthy IEQ. A Knowledge Session provides actionable content for participants looking to incorporate healthy design and specification strategies into their projects.

Participating manufacturers at the GIGA Material Challenge Shanghai 2017 include: Xingyue Carpet, HunterDouglas, Philips Lighting, DST Technology, TRS Terrazzo.

    ----

    星月地毯 XingYue Carpet:

Ecover is a functional carpet which can remove indoor formaldehyde. Carpet is not only floor covering material but extend to walls and ceilings, to better make effort on formaldehyde purification by increasing the carpet surface.

Through restructuring of the carpet, designers explore multidimensional use of formaldehyde purification carpet.

    HunterDouglas:

The participants are required to create their heartfelt healthy life space within 30min on the drawing board provided with curtain fabrics, aluminum panels, rock wool, terracotta panels and other Hunter Douglas’ product elements and auxiliary elements of various shapes and types. After that need to elaborate the creation idea of their teams.

    PHILIPS 飞利浦:

Using Philips Lighting connecting technology, designers will learn that, in the office space, light and other equipment can form a network of things, enhancing the communication between equipments, creating a more intelligent, user-friendly office environment, reshaping the office work process.

    DST Technology 迪勤:

The biggest advantage of DST indoor air quality monitor is detecting comparatively accurate IAQ data with reasonable prices, and transfer these data to users. However, having data is not enough, we need enough IAQ knowledge to ‘translate’ these data, and further using these data to guide users' behavior. We develop a quiz and real model of a simple sensor to help designers to further understanding the importance of IAQ monitoring.

    TRS Terrazzo 结庐水磨石:

Material ingredients is the key for making a healthy product. According to the lab testing, TVOC and Formaldehyde emission of TRS Terrazzo.

By experiencing to make your own terrazzo, designers will learn that: terrazzo is not only for decoration, but also could contribute to your healthy indoor air quality.
